Our Computer Education program provides training from Introduction to Computers to using Email to full Microsoft Office certification.

Programs Offered
Quickbooks

QuickBooks is offered for students who have some experience with computers and accounting principles. It will provide the learner with the knowledge, skills, and background necessary to understand and use the QuickBooks program to assist in running the accounting end of a business. Students. Students exiting this course will obtain skills needed in the workforce with reference to employment in the accounting or office field.

Job Readiness

Job Readiness is an open entry course, enrollment is available every Monday. This course will prepare you for the world of work. In this course you will learn basic life skills, job search skills, you will learn how to explore different career options, create a resume, learn how to complete job applications correctly, and have a career portfolio for your job hunting process. You will use a workbook and the Internet to complete some of the exercises. This is a work at your own pace course.

Simulated Office Development

Simulated Office Development is open to students interested n a business career who have met the prerequisites of the class. Students will gain on the job training and experience in a business office environment. Students will carry out oral and written directions effectively, maintain effective work relationships, and work in a team environment. This course articulates with Bakersfield College.

Keyboarding I & II*

Keyboarding I

Keyboarding I is an open entry course, enrollment is available every Monday. In this course you will learn the alphabetic, numeric and symbol keys. You will learn to type sentences and paragraphs. In this course you will be introduced to word processing and creating business documents. This includes typing certification for 45+ net words per minute. This course is articulated with Bakersfield College. To earn 1 college unit you must earn an A or B in the class and you must also complete Keyboarding II. This is a work at your own pace course. Books are available for classroom use only.

Keyboarding II

Keyboarding II is an open entry course, enrollment is available every Monday. In this course you will learn to type and proofread business documents and reports, you will learn to create tables and you will learn different formats of creating business documents, for example block style letters, modified block style letters, MLA and APA reports, itineraries and many more documents using word processor. This course is also designed to build speed. This includes typing certification for 55+ net words per minute required for articulation. This course is articulated with Bakersfield College. To earn 1 college unit you must earn an A or B in the class and you must also complete Keyboarding I. This is a work at your own pace course. Books are available for classroom use only.

Accounting I, II & III*

Accounting I

This is an entry level course consisting of the study of accounting. This section includes simple debits and credits through the complete accounting cycle. This is the first in the series of Accounting Classes. It is expected the student will continue to complete all three Accounting components but completion of just Accounting I is also possible.

Accounting II

This class is next and includes:

  • Journalizing purchases
  • Cash payments
  • Sales & cash receipts
  • Posting to ledgers
  • Business transactions
  • Work sheets
  • Financial statements
  • Partnerships
  • Closing entries
  • Fiscal period work

Accounting III

This class is the last of the three Components. This class is more intense and covers:

  • Special Journals
  • Payroll Records
  • Payroll Accounting
  • Taxes
  • Business Transactions
  • Uncollected accounts receivable
  • Depreciation
  • Notes
  • Interest
  • Accrued items
  • Vouchers
  • Petty Cash
  • Inventory Systems

*Completion of all 3 courses required for Bakersfield College articulation.

Record Keeping

Record Keeping I

Record Keeping I is an open entry course, enrollment is available every Monday. This course is the first part of record management. Upon completion of this first part of Record Keeping you will understand and properly process: budget records, cash records, and retail charge sales. You will have nine chapters to complete. You will use a workbook and machine calculator for this course. Each chapter mocks a job simulation. This is a work at your own pace course.

Record Keeping II

Record Keeping II is an open entry course, enrollment is available every Monday. This course is the second part of record management and includes 7 chapters to complete. Upon completion of this second part of Record Keeping you will understand and properly process: purchase orders, accounts payables, payroll clerk records. You will use a workbook and machine calculator for this course. Each chapter mocks a job simulation. This is a work at your own pace course.

Filing*

Filing offers a concentrated study and application of ten alphabetic indexing rules published by the Association of Records Managers and Administrators, Ind. (ARMA). In addition to alphabetic indexing rules, additional methods in subject, numeric, and geographic filing are provided as an extended use of alphabetic filing.

This class is articulated with Bakersfield College. You can receive college credit for completion of this class.

Must receive an “A” grade to articulate with Bakersfield College.

Basic Business Skills

This course is for those with an interest in pursuing basic office skills. Upon completion of Basic Business Skills you will obtain knowledge in comparing/proofreading, spelling, business vocabulary, completing business forms, calculating, file referencing, telephone skills and the ability to use reference resources. This is an excellent class to gain knowledge for employment in entry level office work.

Only one workbook is required for this class. You will work at your own pace to complete the course. Basic Business Skills is a core class requirement for Business Certification.
