Classes for adult with disabilities – Bakersfield Adult School offers a variety of instructional programs to assist in meeting the needs of adults with disabilities in the community at the following facilities: Bakersfield Association for Retarded Citizens (BARC) 2240 South Union Avenue Bakersfield, CA 93301 (661) 834-2272 BAS and BARC are partners for the adults with disabilities. BAS has been involved with BARC for the past 20 years. BAS teaches the students vocational skills to help them become productive people. It is very rewarding and exciting to see these people become successful. Through the BAS educational program at BARC we are giving adults with disabilities opportunities that they would not otherwise have. The vocational skills taught enable these people to earn a wage and become consumers. We capitalize on their abilities, not their disabilities, thereby producing productive people who contribute to our society. BAS has multiple staff at the BARC site working with adults with disabilities. Socialization and vocational skills are taught on a daily basis. We also have BARC Shoppe, which makes graphic design and heat press on T-Shirts, mugs, mouse pads, coasters, aprons, etc. BAS has computer lab set up to teach these special people computer skills.
